Natural Product-Drug Interaction Analysis

Background

Currently, the sales of botanical dietary supplements and other medicinal natural products (NPs) are on the rise, which greatly increases the possibility of significant pharmacokinetic interactions between NPs and drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Therefore, when patients regularly take NPs with other drugs, it is very likely that natural product-drug interactions (NPDIs) will change the efficacy and safety of traditional drugs.

However, due to the batch heterogeneity of natural products, the lack of relevant pharmacokinetic information, and the complexity of their interactions, evaluating NPDI is more challenging than drug-drug interactions. As NPDI is affecting people's quality of life, it is becoming more and more urgent to develop systematic experimental methods and calculation methods to guide researchers to conduct NPDI research correctly.

Services

In order to meet these challenges, Creative Proteomics formed a multidisciplinary team of medicinal chemists, natural product chemists, clinical pharmacologists, bioinformatician, etc., through biochemical technology, analytical chemistry technology, computer modeling and simulation, and the analysis of human clinical research data to simulate and evaluate these complex natural product-drug interactions. The services we provide include but are not limited to the following aspects.

  • Identify, characterize, and quantify the chemical components present in natural products.
  • Assess the similarities and differences between natural chemical components.
  • Measure natural product binding (fu plasma, fu mic), inhibition potency (IC50, Ki), metabolism and transport (Vmax, Km), and induction potential (EC50, Emax), and other parameters.
  • Establish mathematical models to reliably predict the interactions between natural products and drugs.
